Earth Pit Inspection in Soil

A KALOT PE 3030 polyethylene inspection pit (virgin resin, heavy duty class H, 30 kN) set flush with the ground over the earth rod. Inside, a stainless steel 304 earth bar (standard; bare or tinned copper on order), seated on edge diagonally in two notches of the inner ledge, collects the rod conductor, the lightning down conductor, the conductor to the building's main earth bar (bare in the soil, green-yellow riser above ground) and the bare conductor to the next earth pit, so every joint stays accessible for inspection and testing.

Installation notes

  1. Excavate about 600 × 600 mm and 350 mm deep at the rod position, clear of other services.
  2. Drive the copper-bonded earth rod with a driving head, adding sections with couplers until the design resistance is reached. Stop with the rod top about 75 mm above the pit base level.
  3. Lay a gravel bed for drainage around the rod.
  4. Set the pit body over the rod, the rod through the open base, with the top level with the finished ground.
  5. Connect the rod conductor with the selected clamp or an exothermic weld. Clamps take a bare stranded conductor or copper tape against clean rod copper.
  6. Seat the earth bar on edge, diagonally, in the two notches of the inner ledge. Terminate every conductor with its own lug or drilled tape end, one per hole, and label it.
  7. Always bed the pit in at least 100 mm of concrete so it stays level over time, then backfill and finish the surface.
  8. Lift the lug of the earth-rod conductor from the bar so the rod is isolated, measure its resistance, record it and refit the lug, then close the lid and fit both recessed Allen screws.
