Earth Bar in the Building Earthing System

The main earth bar collects every earth in the building at one point. The earth electrode comes in through a disconnect link; switchboards, generator, pipes, plant and floor sub-bars take their protective earth from the bar's outputs.

Installation notes

  1. Fix the main earth bar in the electrical room, close to the main switchboard and the point where the earthing conductor enters the building, at a height of about 1.2–1.5 m.
  2. Fix the stainless brackets to the wall with plugs and screws, then mount the insulators and the copper bar.
  3. Bring the earthing conductor from the earth pit and the foundation earth to the link input. Never connect a consumer to the link input.
  4. Connect each consumer with its own conductor and crimped lug, one lug per hole. Label every conductor at the bar.
  5. Bond incoming water and gas pipes close to their entry point, and bond ducts, cable trays and machine frames to the nearest sub-bar.
  6. To measure the earth electrode, open the link. The building installation is then separated from the electrode. Close and tighten the link after the test and record the value.
  7. Size the conductors to IEC 60364-5-54 and the national code; keep spare holes for future circuits.
